Our History

We created Cine Fe in 2019 because too many Colorado filmmakers felt they needed to leave the state to build their careers.

As a result, too many of our stories went untold, too many voices went unheard, and too many depictions of Colorado were missing the very thing that makes it special: its people.

So we created Cine Fe as a nonprofit incubator where filmmakers could nurture their projects while fostering community and working together to create a better future for each other.

Since our inception, we’ve worked with dozens of filmmakers, helping nurture their projects, advance their careers, and connect them to creative and professional opportunities. But our work hasn’t stopped there.

2019

In 2019, we began a statewide study of Colorado’s film industry, interviewing over 150 individuals across all sectors to hear what their ambitions were, what challenges stood in the way, and what would be most helpful and transformative for them. The study was commissioned by Colorado Creative Industries and Denver Arts & Venues and is scheduled to be published in late 2021.

2020

In 2020, we mobilized Colorado's film community in support of a state bill that would create transferable tax credits for the state's film, television, and video game industry. Working with partners across the state, we developed messaging, recruited spokespeople, activated hundreds in our community to contact their legislators, and hosted a rally and press conference at the Colorado State Capitol.

2021

In 2021, we launched the Cine Fe Fellowship, a nine-month program that provides mentorship, workspace, and creative support for five filmmakers who have demonstrated excellence in their work, dedication to their artistic growth, and a commitment to helping others.

We have big plans for what comes next, inspired by what Colorado filmmakers say would be most helpful, exciting, and transformative.
